Born in 1936 in Bangalore, Dr. Anantha K Atre received his education from Bangalore High School, National College and at Central College. A Doctorate in Mathematics, Dr. Atre has over 15 research papers to his credit and has guided many students in pursuit of M.Phil and Ph.D at Bangalore University. Dr. Atre has served as Principal, Vijaya Evening College and Vijaya College and also as NCC officer for 6 years wherein he led the Republic Day Parade at Delhi in 1966. He has also worked with various academic bodies such as the Academic Council, Syndicate and Senate in Bangalore University. He has been a member of the Board of Studies in Karnataka University and attended conferences in America and Turkey. A multi-talented personality, Dr. Atre was initiated into Yoga practice in 1949 by Pandit Shankar Shastry of the Bangalore Sanskrit College and later initiated into Higher Yoga (Kundalini) in 1959 by Swami Sivananda Saraswathi (Hrishikesh, Himalayas) He now serves as Director at Yoga Jeevana Kendra, Bangalore and is a member of Board of Studies in Yoga, Karnataka University, Dharwad. He has been an invited speaker and advisor at International Yoga Festival, Department of Tourism, Government of Pondicherry and has taught Yoga at various places in India and U.S.A. Apart from being an avid practitioner of Yoga, Dr. Atre holds a black-belt in Okinawan Karate Do and is a Flute Artist in Hindustani Music.
