Sri G V Viswanath IAS (Retd.)
Modest, learned and noble-minded, Sri. G. V. Viswanath is the President of BHS Higher Education Society. Known for the qualities of integrity and ideals, he has served with the Government of Karnataka and the Government of India after joining the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) in 1958. He has efficiently executed his duties as a Deputy Commissioner and Divisional Commissioner and has served in the Secretariat as Secretary, Commissioner, Principal Secretary and as Additional Chief Secretary. He has headed several state organisations and was Director General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises. He was also the Chairman of Bangalore Development Authority. With an illustrious career spanning over 3 decades, he retired on superannuation in 1992. Even after retirement, he extended his services as CMD of a government organisation on Urban Planning for a few years and also headed a Task Force constituted by the Government on Urban and Rural Infrastructure. The environmentalist in him has inspired him to work on environmental issues, water and the ecology of the Western Ghats.
